LiceXballet is a non-profit association constituted in Barcelona in December 14th, 2012 and registered at the Generalitat de Catalunya (Nr 49293). LiceXballet was created from the initiative of a group of dancers that were members of the Ballet of the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona. Our Association joins all people interested in the historical defence of ballet in our country and specifically in our more emblematic Theatre. Therefore, all professionals and/or dance lovers, journalists, writers, stage designers, dance photographers, people from the world of art in general and, evidently, all dancers that in any time were part of the Ballet of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, will be warmly welcome in LiceXballet. In addition, all people interested in the dance world will be also welcome to join our Association.
Creation of the LiceXballet Association
The history of ballet along many years of the XX Century in Catalonia and in all Spain cannot be understood without considering the figure of Joan Magrinyà (1903-1995). Dancer, teacher and choreographer, linked in all these aspects to the Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona since 1926, Joan Magrinyà left a legacy within his dancers and students that is still soundly alive. In addition, his friendly personality and kindness conquered the respect and love from all people that had contact with him, inside or outside of the artistic circles.
Therefore it was no surprising that when Joan Magrinyà passed away in 1995, a group of his students and dancers, basically members of the Ballet Corps that worked for many years under his mastership at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, agreed to perpetuate the memory of who had been a symbol of the dance in our country. From that moment, several meetings were organised among dancers who were members of those ballet corps. Finally, all these efforts crystallised at the end of 2012 in the creation of the LiceXballet Association.
Our Association has its seat in Barcelona and among its main objectives there is the recuperation of the history of the Ballet del Gran Teatre del Liceu since the inauguration of this Theatre in 1847. Specifically, LiceXballet wants to disseminate the work that as dancer, choreographer and teacher performed Joan Magrinyà in this Theatre. All this outstanding work justifies that he had become a reference of the dance, not only in Catalonia, but in all over Spain. At the same time, this history should reflect the work of all choreographers, dancers and dance teachers that were members of this Ballet since its foundation.
Nevertheless, our Association is not conformed to be only a witness of that history, but it is committed to organise activities addressed to spread news and knowledge related to dance at national and international scales, and to foster contacts and fruitful exchanges with professionals, associations and organisms from all fields connected with dance and ballet.
